About the Event

Helping spark interest in STEAM and the New Zealand geothermal industry, geothermal industry STEAM Ambassadors will head out into local schools to run a two hour in-class activity. Students will get an overview of the industry and how STEAM is used in the workplace, then get hands-on applying this knowledge in a fun STEAM activity.

This has been a hugely popular event in previous years, with STEAM Ambassadors going out to around 20 schools each year. Activities have encompassed engineering, geology, chemistry, seismology, aerodynamics and more! Turbines were tested, drill rigs were built (and collapsed!), earthquake resilience was tested, and local geology was investigated to determine where best to drill for reservoirs on the school field…

This program is available to schools in the geothermal districts of Taupo, Rotorua, Kawerau and Whakatane and will be held during the period of 17th July to the 11th of August.

We have a limited number of STEAM Ambassador teams available, so do register your school early to reserve a visit!

Once registered, schools are paired up with a team of STEAM Ambassadors, and the visit will be schedule at a time in Term 3 that suits both the school hosts and STEAM Ambassadors. Ideally, most visits will be completed in Week 1 of Term 3 (the week prior to NZ Geothermal Week 2023).

If you are in the geothermal industry and interested in becoming a STEAM Ambassador this year, please contact Fiona Miller (fiona@taupo.biz) at Amplify.
