About the Event

Come and learn more about the important role of science in the New Zealand geothermal industry, through the lens of GNS Science, and how you and your organisation can be a part of this.

In 2001, scientists at GNS Science looked at the geothermal potential for New Zealand and forecast what it will look like in 2021.  How close were these predictions?  And where is geothermal science heading in the next 20 years?  What scientific expertise is needed?  What attracts or constrains new investment in the industry, both in New Zealand and overseas?  What is New Zealand’s role on the international stage? How can we collaborate, nationally and internationally, to ensure the New Zealand industry remains world-leading and world-class?

Chief Executive Ian Simpson will outline the role of GNS Science in the New Zealand geothermal industry landscape, and the key principles underpinning how this Crown Research Institute operates.

GM Research Strategy & Partnerships Gary Wilson will reflect on the scientific advancements of the last 20 years and evolution of scientific expertise within GNS Science, and outline strategic priorities and activities underway to continue to underpin the geothermal industry for the next 20 years. The event will conclude with an open discussion session to explore further opportunities to work together in pre-competitive geothermal industry R&D.

This event is for industry leaders, decision-makers, collaborators and clients in the geothermal industry and related RS&T organisations.

Tea & coffee will be available from 9:30am, and attendees are invited to stay for light refreshments and informal networking after the event.  Please register to attend.
