About the Event

The Activating Leaders Workshop, which is open to any gender, is an intermediate-level leadership workshop. This is all about activating your existing leadership skills and enabling you to maximise your impact. We will challenge the traditional view of what defines a leader (surprise - it’s not just management, anyone can lead!), we will inspire each person to extend their impact circle, and we will coach attendees on how to bring their ambitions forward each day to empower change. During this workshop we will hear from a guest speaker to guide our thinking, followed by an interactive session where we can collaborate and apply these concepts.

Leadership is not a competition, so we will learn about how we can identify and connect with other types of leaders to unify our efforts and maximise our impact for Geothermal, New Zealand, and the world. If you have already had some exposure to influencing and want to further develop your thinking and effectiveness, apply for a seat today by registering your interest. We will help activate the skills you’ve already learned so that you can go out and achieve your greatest ambitions.

Our five guest speakers are:

Chloe Dallaway-Walker: Together with her husband Matt and their three children, Chloe dairy farms just north of Taupō peak milking 1300 cows. After being involved in start-up ventures in Wellington they returned to manage Matt’s family dairy farm in 2013 and have expanded their business from there. When not supporting the farming operation, Chloe is the Chief Operating Officer for Precision Farming, an agritech company that helps farmers and their partners to drive better nutrient outcomes by connecting every tractor and every activity on every farm. This dual commitment reflects her passion for driving innovation and sustainability within the agricultural landscape. Over the years, she has been involved in various community boards and trusts, including the Tongariro Taupō Conservation Board, Taupo Business Chamber, Enterprise Great Lake Taupō, NZ Young Farmers National Contest, as well as her children’s ECE and school boards. Chloe brings expertise from yet another industry, rounding out our panel to show how leadership can look across all sectors. Chloe represents an important sector within NZ and the Taupō region, and we are so excited to hear her insights!

Catie Noble: Taupō locals may already recognise Catie from her many roles in the community. She was the President and Chairperson of the Taupo Business Chamber, Board member/trustee of the Taupo Economic Development Agency, and chairperson of the Thrive Whakapuawai advisory board. Catie is the owner of Upward, where she helps people solve complex problems within their organisations. With 15 years in small & medium enterprises (SME), she has started, bought, sold and shut down both government funded and commercial health businesses. Catie works across multiple industries, including accounting, sawmilling, joinery, construction, iwi health providers, electricity generation and interior design. She also fills her boots by being an active business coach, start-up mentor and Chief Enthusiasm Officer. Catie will bring a huge amount of energy and expertise to the WING Activating Leaders Workshop - we can’t wait to hear from her!

Andy Blair: This has been a huge year for Andy. In 2023 she became the first NZ recipient of the United Nations WE Empower Award for her valuable contributions toward the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Andy has also just been featured in Forbes Magazine's "5 Female Founders Leading The Charge For A Sustainable Future" in May 2024, and she has received the 2024 King's Birthday Honours and awarded the title of Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for her services to the geothermal industry and to women. Absolutely epic. In addition to her most recent awards, features and honours, Andy is the Co-Founder and Director of Business & Innovation at Upflow - a geothermal science, research and innovation company that helps solve global industry problems. Andy is the Immediate Past President of the International Geothermal Association, and she's a current Board Member for Global Women, which is a collaboration of NZ's most influential women leaders.

Angela Alexander, Au. D, CCC-A, MNZAS: Dr. Angela Loucks Alexander is an accomplished Audiologist, specialized in diagnosing and treating Auditory Processing Disorder (APD). Angela's TEDx "Escaping the Hidden Prison of Auditory Processing Disorder" was the most-watched TEDx worldwide in September 2021! She hosts the Between Two Two Ears podcast and directs the Auditory Processing Institute, where she trains audiologists and speech-language pathologists to provide APD services. She has also created an online, searchable map to help clients find the help they need at ADPsupport.com

Jenny Rudd: Highlights of Jenny's professional career include the founding of Dispute Buddy (a tool to streamline compilation of timelines of texts and emails for legal dispute processes), leading the product team for the workzilla legaltech startup, and co-authoring the New Zealand Gender Investment Gap report. She is also an entrepreneur-in-residence for Techstars Tech Central Sydney Accelerator (the world's biggest pre-seed investor), with a focus on helping diverse founders, AND sits on the board of Enterprise Angels, Tauranga.

The ideal attendees for this workshop have a minimum of 5 years of career experience and there is no maximum. Ideally you already see yourself as a new leader or on the cusp of figuring out your leadership direction, whether that’s in a technical, community, team, corporate or other space. This will be helpful for people who already have some understanding of their strengths and who want to learn about the next steps to increase your effectiveness, perception as a leader, and influence.

For those who want to attend but have family responsibilities during this time slot, please still apply and indicate this in the google form.

Many thanks to Ormat for sponsoring this WING Workshop.
