Te Rahui Solar Farm: Procurement Opportunities for Local Businesses

Updated: Nov 17

The Te Rahui Solar Farm is one of the most significant new energy investments in the Taupō District, bringing economic opportunities for local businesses. Once both project stages are complete, Te Rahui will be New Zealand’s largest solar farm, delivering 400MW of renewable energy - enough to power approximately 100,000 homes. The project is being developed as a 50-50 joint venture between Nova Energy and Meridian Energy. The partners have agreed to build stage 1 (200MW) of the project, with approval to proceed with stage 2 (200MW) not received to date. It is expected that the project will deliver power to the grid from mid-2027.

Beon NZ Ltd (Beon) has been awarded the construction and initial operations and maintenance contracts. Beon specialises in delivering renewable energy projects and will manage procurement for a wide range of work packages, many of which are well suited to local suppliers.

Amplify is supporting local business involvement by helping promote these opportunities and guiding businesses through the registration process so they can be considered for upcoming Requests for Quotation (RFQs).

Project Overview

Stage 1 of the Te Rahui Solar Farm includes the installation of approximately 360,000 photovoltaic solar panels across agricultural land in Rangitaiki near Taupō. Civil works, site development, internal access tracks, operational buildings, fencing, security systems, and a range of specialist and general services all form part of this phase.

Beon will release RFQs progressively between late 2025 and 2026. Some tenders have already been completed, but a substantial list of packages remains open for businesses wanting to register their interest.

Procurement Opportunities

Beon has outlined a wide range of procurement opportunities for Taupō and regional businesses as part of the Te Rahui Solar Farm development. These include civil construction, earthworks, access tracks, metal fabrication, fencing, site services, waste management, commercial cleaning, crushed rock supply, equipment hire, food and amenities services, pest and weed control, and other operational support roles.

A detailed list of work packages, including the scope of works and indicative RFQ timing, is available via the link below. Businesses can review these packages and use the registration form to select the scopes that align with their capability.

Registering your interest ensures your business is connected with the appropriate work packages and enables Beon to contact you as RFQs are released.
