About the Event

The 2026 New Zealand Geothermal Week workshop is designed to empower geothermal professionals to actively shape the future of the sector by addressing regulatory challenges and fostering technical innovation. NZGA members have highlighted that existing regulations governing geothermal activities are outdated and impose unnecessary barriers, resulting in increased engineering design burdens, higher costs, and equipment standards misaligned with geothermal operations. Responding to these concerns, the NZGA called for a comprehensive review within its submission to the Draft New Zealand Geothermal Strategy.


The workshop’s objective is to support a modern, robust and fit-for-purpose regulatory framework, providing clear guidance for both regulators and industry participants, while facilitating the adoption of new technologies such as supercritical systems and integrated heat and power applications.
