About the Event
As part of Tech Week 2022 the Taupo District Council libraries are offering a free district-wide session about online safety delivered by John Parsons. John has presented to schools and organisations in the district before and comes highly recommended. This session is a FREE introduction to the risks of inappropriate use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) and how to mitigate those risks.
The Internet is a target rich offender friendly environment.
Online paedophiles are drawn to children’s vulnerability online. One area in the presentation includes teaching parents how to safeguard their children online by reducing the expression of vulnerability. The impact of pornography is devastating for young people and this presentation advises how to limit exposure in the early years of a child’s life. John will also talk about screen time, the importance of sleep and its impact on educational outcomes for children.
Senior citizens are considered asset rich and isolated by criminals. John works with adults who have had thousands of dollars and in some cases their life savings, stolen by criminals. John will identify strategies to reduce the risk of becoming the victim of a financial cybercrime.
Prior to the session you will be sent a Zoom link. You do not need to have Zoom installed on your device to join this session.
If you will not have access to the internet or a data allowance that would allow you to join for the entire session, you can attend this session in person at Taupo Library. Spaces are limited.
Target Audience: Families and caregivers of those caring for children, and adults, including a particular focus on senior citizens.
