Various , Wairakei Drive, Wairakei, Taupō, New Zealand

About the Event

Secondary schools in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions are invited to bring small groups of interested students to learn about the operations of three world-class geothermal companies, and some of the exciting careers that the industry offers.

Gold and Silver event week sponsors Contact Energy, GNS Science and MB Century will give small group tours of their plants and facilities, highlighting the scale and skills required to keep New Zealand’s geothermal industry steaming ahead.  This full day event will give students a first-hand appreciation of the scale and operations of this exciting and growing industry, and highlight some of the varied and world-class careers that it offers.

Due to event logistics, each school can bring a maximum of 10 students plus 2 accompanying staff.  Staff must chaperone students for the duration of their visit, and schools will be required to arrange their own transport to / from Taupo, to the starting point for the tours.

As these are active industrial sites, visitors will be required to comply with all visitor and health & safety requirements of the host companies.  This will include providing visitor details for all students and accompanying staff, wearing clothing which fully covers arms and legs, and covered shoes.  Vaccine passes and / or return of a negative Covid test may be required prior to entry to operational sites.  Personal protective equipment (PPE), such as visi-vests, hard hats, ear plugs and safety glasses, will be provided by the hosts as required. A full list of visitor requirements will be notified to registered schools prior to the event.

This event is free to attend, but pre-registration by schools is essential.

Once registered, all schools will be required to provide individual details for all students and staff who will be attending.  Spaces are strictly limited to a maximum of 300 students, so be sure to register quickly!
