About the Event
Hosted by the New Zealand Māori Council, this workshop explores partnerships with Māori, including Māori owners with access to geothermal resources, for geothermal development.
This workshop will cover government geothermal resources policy, including for Māori and for wider public interests, with connection to government's energy policies. Case studies will cover Māori owner interests in development, including for capability building and intergenerational benefit will be accompanied a presentation on the Indigenous People's Geothermal Declaration enacted in 2024.
The second half of the workshop will include science and developing technology such as for low geothermal enthalpy development options, and a range of applications for geothermal and legal entity structures for geothermal projects. To conclude the workshop, the participants will learn more about some of the existing collaborations between industry and hapū/ iwi. Options for investment partnerships, such as joint ventures between hapū, iwi, Māori landowners and investors will be reviewed.
