About the Event

Orakei Korako (also known as 'The Hidden Valley') is a protected geothermal area situated in the Taupō Volcanic Zone on the Waikato River at Lake Ohakuri. The naturally fault-stepped silica terraces that form the base of Orakei-Korako Geyserland and Thermal Park are believed to be the largest of their kind since the destruction of the famous Pink and White Terraces in 1886 on the edge of Lake Rotomahana beneath Mount Tarawera. Join us as we explore this geothermal wonderland; the trip includes a short ferry ride and a self-guided walk around the geothermal area. This tour, ordinarily $47 per person, is partially subsidised by NZGA for attendees to appreciate our taonga, the heat beneath our feet.

This event is limited to NZGA members and / or attendees of the NZGA Winter Seminar. Please register to attend. If you are interested in attending both the morning and afternoon field trips (Generation Developments & The Natural Resource), you can purchase both tickets together using our Field Trip Bundle option.
