About the Event
Geothermal Indigenous Declaration and Partnership Case Study, hosted by NZGA.
This presentation will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about the Geothermal Indigenous People's Declaration, developed during the inaugural Indigenous Geothermal Symposium in Hawai'i in 2024. The Declaration represents a collective voice of Indigenous geothermal communities from around the world, advocating for Indigenous rights, cultural integrity, meaningful participation and shared prosperity in geothermal development.
The session will also showcase a recent case study featuring Ngāti Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau and SLB, highlighting their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed during the 2026 Indigenous Geothermal Symposium. The presentation will explore how this partnership demonstrates the practical application of the Declaration's principles, strengthening collaboration between Indigenous communities and the geothermal industry while supporting sustainable geothermal development and intergenerational wellbeing.
