About the Event
A much anticipated field trip, this outing will head to two locations on the Tauhara Geothermal Field in Taupō where geothermal is being used to produce both electricity and goods for commercial and residential use both in Aotearoa and overseas. The trip will visit:
The Tauhara Geothermal Power Station. As New Zealand’s most recently completed geothermal power station in 2024, you’ll have an opportunity to see the most advanced technology in geothermal electricity production including the world’s largest single shaft geothermal turbine at the time of commissioning.
Nature’s Flame Wood Pellet Processing Plant. Nature’s Flame is a success story of using direct geothermal heat to dry and process a forestry waste product to produce a commodity that is used to reduce carbon emissions both here in NZ and overseas. You’ll have an opportunity to learn about how the plant is having a tangible impact on their business sustainability using geoheat.
