About the Event
Contact Energy is leading New Zealand’s renewable energy future, operating 37 generation sites nationwide across geothermal, hydro and thermal assets. Contact supports around 670,000 customer connections across electricity, gas, broadband and mobile.
Contact is a proud member of the Taupō community and currently has seven geothermal power stations in the district. This will increase to eight at the end of 2027 when a new station at Te Mihi becomes operational.
Commissioned in November 1958, Wairākei power plant, situated on the Wairākei geothermal system in Taupō, was one of the first geothermal plants of its kind in the world, and is an iconic symbol of New Zealand's geothermal electricity generation.
Geothermal energy plays a crucial role in New Zealand’s transition away from fossil fuels and it is an unsung hero. It’s also where Contact leads the world with technology and innovation.
